TileVision Waterproof LCD TV – The History of TileVision the bathroom and shower televisions The Tilevision LCD TV went on sale in 2001 with the first two bathroom TV models, the TV104FR with a 10.4" screen and the TV15FR with a 15" screen, both of these were waterproof TVs they had black glass LCD screens and control buttons for channel and volume control. Like all Tilevision sets, these TVs were designed for use in high humidity areas such as the bathroom, shower cubicle and kitchen, and like all bathroom TVs that have followed they had stainless steel back boxes that mount into a recessed wall. The first custom remote control was a splashproof credit card sized unit, these have come a long way as Tilevision now use the fully waterproof infrared remotes with their televisions now. Tilevisions ongoing waterproof remote control technology makes them ideal for use in the bath or shower. In July 2003 the world's first 17" waterproof LCD TV was launched, unlike its predecessors the TV17FR television had a silver finish to the 6mm toughened glass screen, this model came without control buttons – the Tilevision TV17FR came with a remote control instead, a full-function one with silver finish, membrane front face, moulded buttons and sealed battery compartment, not totally waterproof but certainly water resistant. One year later Tilevision launched the TV17FR2P - a waterproof bathroom TV with a completely waterproof remote that was capable of floating. Later in 2004 the TV17FR2P was joined by the TV104FR2P, the last of the 10.04" sets. Both of these LCD TVs were based on the same control electronics, therefore, both sets used the same TVS/00142/04 remote control, even though the remote control was waterproof the cell battery was user replaceable. October 2005 saw the launch of the TV17FR3PS, the 3rd of the Tilevision 17" television models, the TVS/00208/04 floating waterproof remote control was included with this model, shortly after in November 2005 the TV23FPR, Tilevisions 23" bathroom TV was launched again the TVS/00208/04 floating remote was included, the TV23 Tilevision television shared all the features of the TV17 bathroom television. The TV23 was the first waterproof LCD available with a black or mirrored toughened glass screen, the TV17 was also made available in a choice of mirror or black options, both the 17" and 23" TVs used the TVS/00210/04 remote controls. In November 2006 the Tilevision TV17FR3PS was replaced by the new TV17FR4PS, this television took advantage of improvements in LCD screen technology, it had higher resolution and faster response time, improved brightness and contrast, it also had a wider viewing angle of almost 180 degrees and once again the TV was supplied with the latest TVS/00300/04 floating remote control. The biggest advance in bathroom televisions came in October 2007 with the introduction of the TV17FR5PS, the world's first bathroom TV with a digital DVB-T tuner with MHEG-5 digital text decoding. This model of TV17 LCD TV was fully compatible with UK digital standards for TVs and was able to receive all freeview digital TV and Radio. October 2007 saw the introduction of the TV23FR3PS, a digital LCD TV which was based on the same tuner board as the TV17FR5PS waterproof bathroom TV. Both these TileVision televisions use the TVS/00310/04 waterproof remote control, which, like earlier models of remote control, both floats and is powered by the CR2032 3V lithium button cell. May 2009 saw a further step forward in television technology with the introduction of the TV19FR1PS, the first of the digital bathroom LCD TVs. The TV/19/FR1/PS is remarkable in several ways, firstly, even though the LCD screen is 19", the unit fits into the same size of back box as previous 17" TileVision models. The second point is the improvement in picture quality and the speed of the digital text functions in comparison with earlier models. The third point of note is the new TVS/00370/04 remote control which is the first TileVision remote control to cover all the functions of the standard remote control with the exception of a couple of Teletext functions which will be redundant in 2010 when the UK analogue TV system is switched off. Product development for TileVision is ongoing, with new TVs being developed to take advantage of advances in both digital technology and manufacturing processes. The TileVision web site requires a browser capable of displaying frames.
TileVision is the highest quality waterproof TV available, constructed from first quality electronics mounted on a 6 mm toughened glass screen and housed in a stainless steel box assembly. Completely waterproof, the TileVision TV is ideal for use in high humidity areas such as bathrooms, wetrooms and shower cubicles.
